Hello !
I'm a new owner of a 48' pick up. I bought the car for about $ 3000. With some rust, but drivable. I want to convert the brakes. I saw some disc brake setups with GM parts and original spindles . . These parts are easy to get here in Germany so this is my way to go. Has anybody more information about this conversion ? How will the adaption from GM rotors to Ford spindle work ? Spacers ? Bearings ?
Night Rider, there are several companies that offer kits to adapt disc brakes to your stock axle/spindle. One of them is http://www.classicperform.com/ You should also take a look at the sponsor of this site by clicking on the "parts shop" link in the upper right corner.
Welcome to FTE. The guys here are great and will pass on their knowledge on most topics of discussion!!
I used a kit from ECI in Conn. quite a while ago on a 48 F1. It used mid 70's Mid size rotors. The kit consisted of a bracket and a sleeve that was driven onto the original spindle. It all worked quite well for the 5 years or so that I had it. Just make sure you install residual valves and a proportioning valve also if you keep your master cyl. under the floorboards.
