Brake pad wire spring

Brake pad wire spring
in the process of doing a ton of stuff to the EX. Pads and rotors still good. When I took the pads off the wire prong broke, of course, but the tip remained in the hole on the brake pad.

So so what is the purpose of these things anyway?

They are a return spring to keep the pad from dragging on the rotor. Reduces brake heat and noise.

Not 100% essential, but will extend the life of your pads and rotors.

You definitely want new springs. You should be able to buy a "hardware kit" from one of the parts stores or from RockAuto.

The problem is the holes where the springs go are filled with old springs

Maybe a can of keyboard cleaner? just fine-gauge compressed air at the end of the day.
