Wider Mirrors?

Have a 17 SD with the powered extending mirrors, and towed our 44' enclosed race trailer this weekend for the 1st time. Towed really well, but I would like the mirrors to be wider, to be able to spot the end of the trailer better (as well as be able to see the tires, as I have caught tires going down before they shredded). Is there any way to make the factory mirrors go out more? I assume there are snap on extenders (I have some for our Raptor when towing our 24' trailer)? I would prefer not going this route (if they exist), as while they do work, having a triple views is tough to get used to. Have seen the Dodge Ram mirrors, and they look like they extend much further.

LOL. The Dodge mirrors are the worst ones out there.

Make sure that your mirror glass is set super wide. To see straight back you should have to move your head closer to the window. (just a little) The back of the trailer is directly behind the front of the trailer, so I'm not following your logic there???

In todays age, maybe a camera and TPMS would be a better solution.

I recognized the same problem. Added a Furrion Wireless camera to the top of my Cargo Trailer. Works great or at least it's better than guessing along the way.

I agree completely! I have a winding narrow road I have to go on often and I always feel like their mirror is going to hit mine. WAY too far out, and it looks ridiculous. I imagine it as deer antlers sticking out the side of the truck. Too skinny looking.

I understand your reasoning for wanting wider mirrors, but I wanted to agree with the OP about the dodge ones! Good luck!

I don’t find our factory mirrors too bad with the ability to extend them. But, I also don’t tow a really long trailer that requires me to see the end. I think what makes the dodge ones look so bad is how skinny they are.

And the fact that the dodge ones are always on our side of the double yellow line. Should have a wide load placard on those shmucks.

I wish my mirrors extended another inch so I could see the side of my trailer. I don't see there being a good solution for that.

I understand entirely. I tow a couple of different trailers with mine and even the 24' enclosed (24x8.5) race hauler its hard to see right down the side when I'm backing it into a parking spot.

It would be nice if they extended another 4 inches. That's all I would need.

I also wish the Ford mirrors would extend out another inch or so. The Dodge mirrors are actually superior at seeing the end of a long trailer. I don’t mind their look.

I have never been in a dodge, but only noticed the mirrors on the road. The look doesn't bother me if the function is there.

Well it seems like others have the same issue and there is not a simple mechanical solution.

I'm waiting on my F350, so haven't had any experience towing with the mirrors yet, but I hate to hear your experience with the them. Sure hope I like them when I get a chance to try them out.

By my post count, it's obvious that I haven't been here very long, but as much as Buliwyf seems to hate Ram in so many threads, their mirrors work pretty good. You can see a trailer real well. I currently have a Ram 2500 that I really like and have had no issues with.

It would be nice if the Ford mirrors would automatically adjust the angle of the mirror as the mirror unit is moved outward. A perfectly adjusted mirror when in the innermost location is no longer perfect when in the outermost location. At least that's my experience.
