My 98 Ranger 4x4 3L has 56,000 miles. Going down mild slope in low gear the trany does not brake the truck at all. In 2nd gear I get some braking but loose even that when I shift to low. Same thing happens in 4WD. Any idea what has gone wrong? I just got this truck so I don't know if has always been this way. Help is apprciated.
I don't really know for sure. If it were an A4LD (Precursor to the 4R44E. In fact the 4R44E is sometimes called the A4LDE), I would have you check the low/reverse servo seals, but I don't know if things have changed in the valve body between the A4LD and the 4R44E.
Good luck.
mrshorty,
Thanks for the lead. I am pretty much clueless when it comes to transmissions. I guess the 4r44e is not very popular since I also posted this question on the Ranger Station and you are the only one to respond. Safe to say that something is not right with this unit?
