I have on order a 2018 F350 SB with 5th wheel prep and snow plow prep and 20” tires. I will be towing a Grand Design 310 Solitude. I like the convenience and safety of an auto slider hitch. RV dealer carries PullRite, but Pullrite requires adapter for use with Ford puck system. They use Reese adapter, which adds about 3” in height. Truck is already fairly high with 20” tires, etc.
The only other autoslider I found was Demco (etrailer):, which uses Ford Puck system, but seems more complicated in design versus the Pullrite capture plate approach. PullRite also has a long track record. The other sliders I found that work directly with pucks are all manual sliders.
i noticed in other posts that some trailers are not quite level and tilt up at front a bit. I’m concerned with the PullRite and puck adapter, Hitch will be too high and there won’t be enough adjustment to have the trailer be level and still maintain adaequte clearance with truck.
Couple of questions....
- Does anybody else have similar set-up and is your trailer sitting level?
- Has anyone tried the Demco hitches?
- Any other recommendations such as manual slider that work directly with puck system?
I have the Demco Auto slide in my truck for the last 2 years and haven't had one single problem with it so far...... Yes it does seams like a lot of moving parts but so far no problems at all. The reason I decided on Demco was that it would fit without using any adaptor for the Ford puck system.....
I also run the Demco 21K autoslide with the Ford 5th wheel prep. Nice neat installation. Its just heavy, I use a chain hoist to remove it when needed. If it were me, it is an autoslide hitch or no slide at all. Chances are you'll be too late to engage the slide, after the trailer makes contact with your cab...
I have an f350 (2017) Platinum Diesel SB SRW. It has the 20” wheels. I have the Pullrite on the adaptor frame in the puck system. You will likely be a little nose-high. Not too bad. Plenty of rail clearance. I tow a Jayco ‘Pinnacle 38 REFS with it. You will have zero issues with the GD.
