AC cool off

Need replacement for r12 refrigerant. I have a 92 Ford f150 the ac is cool needs recharge . I know R12 can be found, at a high cost. Is there a cheaper alternative. My system is in good shape no leaks. What has others used? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are still r12 sources at a reasonable price, but if you need some then that means you have other issues that need to be fixed first. Ac doesn't need to be "recharged" as normal maintenance.

X2...R12 can be sourced at a reasonable price. I snag the small cans on E-Bay when I have a R12 project.

There are dozens of 'alternative' refrigerants used in different industries, however they are not intended for automotive use. If you can't find any R12 I would wait, save some money and do a solid R-134a conversion. I did mine years ago, a hiccup here and there but otherwise very consistent performance.

It may seem extreme, but it really would not be that expensive to just rebuild the system with all of the correct r134a parts. You just need to order the parts for a 1994 or later. They should all bolt in just like factory and then no more r12.

I did this on my 1991 F-250. I had to do a little modification to the evaporator box and the condenser brackets because of the year difference. Your 92 should work without any modification.
