Hi All. I need help. A friend of mine with a ford f450, diesel, 2 car carrier was hit & now the ins co is trying to give him half of what his truck is worth. Does anyone know where I can look for a good estimate to show them? I would appreciate any help on this!!! Thanks
Demand a replacemnt vehicle that is as good a shape as you had !
They told me they would only pay replacemnt cost for my car as is... not new cost...
so I told my insurance - Ok, go buy me one for that amount with as few miles as I had and all the equipment I had...
They came back within two days and said we can't find anything like that - So I said ok... let's talk mo money !!!
And they did !
Thank you both for the info. The problem is the truck cannot be moved. It had to be towed to the body shop it is at. There is no taking it anywhere for estimates. The ins co wants an appraisal of its value compared to another. The problem is this is a 1994 f450 xlt, super duty, 2 car carrier, with a chevron flatbed & independent wheel lift. Which is in mint condition & he already got one estimate for $24,500.00 but the ins co wants more (you know how they can be). So any other ideas would be great. Thanks Again for your help.
Could you take a bunch of digital pics that you could show to another body shop so that they could estimate from.
You would have to take many angles, but it would only take about 15 minutes to do this.
What about asking another body shop estimator to take a ride with you over to where the truck is & let him do his estimate right there. This has been done where I live.
Good thought,
but just about any good body shop can send an estimator out for an appraisal... and the body shop it's at has to let them see it...
If the insurance company is demanding another estimate, they should pay for the tow to another body shop as well... They should also pay the soon to be coming 'storage fee' since the body shop it's at will be wanting that !
Everyone's policy is a little different, but are you being supplied a loaner while the insurance company is making you jump thru hoops? And given this is a work truck (I presume) I'll bet they're not giving you a work truck as a loaner!
What's the name of the insurance so we are all apprised of this companies 'helpful' attitude?
I understand that they are a for-profit company, but appeal to your local agent's better judgement and the adjuster's personal side with "What would you expect if this were your truck?"
I sure hope it works out for you... My situation was that it was my personal vehicle, but it was unique in that it was in perfect running order and CLEAN before the other person pulled out in front of me... I ended up with a newer version of the same car and 3K in my pocket after it was all said and done...
Being someone else's fault and they having a different ins. company helped my situation...
Be firm in your demands, you've been paying them premiums for a while and have rights too! They will just say no if you ask too much, but it IS a negotiation - they want to get out for as little as possbile and you NEED a good replacement truck...
Your situation seems in your favor if you start asking for a replacment in as good as condition as your's - they probably can't find one ! And you always have the right to refuse the vehicle they 'find' for you....
