Lincoln 302 problem

I have a 1989 Lincoln Town Car with the 302. Whenever I go to start it in the mornings, it will start and rev up a little bit like normal then it will die. You can start it again and it will do the same thing. Eventually it will stay running usually by the 3rd start. When it is put in reverse it will die sometimes but just mainly when the air-conditioner is on. If you put it in drive and accelerate, it will almost die and then it will catch up and you're good to go. It runs and starts fine once it has warmed up. It usually only does it in the mornings when it is cooler. Does anybody have any suggestions on what could be causing this and why? I am not really that knowlegable on this kind of motor so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Braxton

Lincoln 302 problem

Could be the idle air motor getting weak. Or it could be the engine temp sensor or intake air temp sensor goofing up. If either one of the latter is telling the computer the engine is already warm then the computer will not pull as hard as it should on the idle air motor.

Lincoln 302 problem

you may have a clogged fuel filter, could maybe need a tune up , wires, plugs, cap , rotor. may be a bad tps (throttle position sensor) . take it down to a autozone and have them hook up a code reader. that should give you a better idea. its free
