There's an ID engineering number stamped on the dipstick. If it's D5TE-6750-CA .. it's the correct dipstick. If it's something else, it's wrong.
Yeah, I searched some old threads that you had given that stamp# , but mine has nothing but ADD and FULL... So its an aftermarket stick, that's what has me worried....
Thanks for the quick reply Bill..... looking at some pics of dipsticks, mine is identical to the FE ones im seeing, i need to take a closer look for the stamp, maybe its faded into nothingness...

From my 76 Highboy with a 390 not 360. Had it built but same rear sump and dipstick from original 360. Shield to full 17 13/16. Shield to add 1 qt 18 13/16. Shield to add 2 qt 20 1/16. Shield to end 21 3/4. Just changed oil in mine and 6 qts with new filter is just above add 1 qt. In my spec book 360,390 call for 6 qts. Asterisk "a" at Approx. Cap. {Qts} top of page says Add 1 qt when changing filter. Maybe ND can confirm this.
Interestingly enough my stick is measuring identical to Hickorys to the add and full marks with exception to total length, mine is only 19" My truck was also upgraded to the 390 by the last owner (have receipts) but that wouldnt change the oil pan, I now have 7 quarts total in the pan with a fresh filter and still only shows at the ADD mark........ no major leaks, no smoke when starting, great oil pressure (for an FE)....... beginning to think i put a bend on the tube when I re-fitted it during rebuild or maybe I have and FT pan ? Thank you all for the helpful posts...
These trucks take 6 quarts of oil with a filter change.
That's what I always heard too. Just happened to look at the spec book last oil change and saw the part about adding an extra qt when changing filter. Go figure.
