Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone out there could tell me how I can tell the difference between a 1971 F100 and an F250 just by looking at the body, if there is one. You'll have to explain it to me like I'm 2, because I'm pretty Ford illiterate (for now)
As far as I know there are no body differences. There are the different hood side markers that have either 100 or 250 in them. you can usually tell just by looking at the wheel. f250 will have a hub sticking out of the rim in the back and will have 8 lug nuts F100 will have 5 lugnuts. F100 will have 15" wheels and a F250 will have 16" Right?
Clint
Thanks for all of the answers! I'll go count the lugnuts and get the VIN and let you know what I come up with. It would be awesome if some kind sould could decode that VIN!!!
F250-350 wheels are 16.5" if stock. I wouldn't make a big deal of it, except that some have died trying to mount 16.5" tires on a 16" rim or vice-versa.
Clint,
Easy with the 15" wheels and tires mean it's a F-100. When I bought my '69 F-250 2WD it did have 15" wheels and tires on it. I don't know why the previous owners did such a thing. Also I've pulled hoods off a 1/2 ton and put it on a 3/4 ton. I'd have to say the number of lugs and the hub sticking out the rear rim would probably be the best form of visual recognition between a F-100 and F-250.
