Hey everyone I’m new to the site I was on the web looking for info on my 69 F100 and can across this site. My dad gave me this truck right after I got out of high school in 1976. I drove it till 1998 that’s when it was parked in my barn and sat till now. My son that is 35 has been on my case about getting it out and getting it going again, so about 2 weeks ago we went to the barn and drag it out and up to the house where it got pressure washed and de/miced. While my son pressure washed it I opened the hood so he could clean under there and I grabbed the fan and gave get a pull and the engine turned. I was surprised it wasn’t locked up. After it dryed we pushed it into the garage and when to work. After just a little work we had it cranked and we drove it around in the pasture with no brakes to see if the trans was going to work. The gas tank and brakes were junk and have sense been replaced. I decided to leave everything factory as far as the 6cyl eng , in cab gas tank and manual brakes but I’m thinking I’d like to lower the truck and put some new wheels and tires on it. With that being said what wheel back spacing has everyone been going with to correct the front to back width issue. The spook wheels you see on it now were white and have been on it sense I started driving it. They were rusty and I just shot a coat of paint on them to see what they would look like black. Looking forward to all the advise. Thanks
Looks like your truck has lots of potential. Is it a 240 or a 300?
The 240 in my '69 F100 Ranger died several weeks back and I just got through replacing it with a 300. My truck originally had manual steering and manual drum brakes all the way around when I bought it. I have power brakes, front discs and power steering on it now --very worthwhile upgrades. The only major accessory I don't currently have is A/C.
Besides the possibility of lowering your truck, what are your plans for it?
i would go with the DJM 3/4 drop kit. and at all costs .stay away from and thing from LMC. even if the parts cost more. they are worth it in the long run. cool looking truck.
The motor is a 240 and it runs fairly well for sitting up for that long. I still have to tune it up and I’ve ordered a pertronic igniter II along with new wires, plugs, and coil. I appreciate the advice about LMC I haven’t ever bought from them until now and the tank fit good and seems to be well made. I’m looking for some wheels and tires but haven’t found what I’m looking for yet. The black spokes wheels look pretty good but I don’t like the front sticking out further out that the back.
Right now I’m just wanting to get it where it’s drivable and drive it for awhile when do a Frame off restoration. I just finished a 8 yr frame off restoration on a 72 bbc nova so I’m not wanting to jump into another right yet. I look forward to getting some good advice on here.
Thanks
Uni Moe the only thing i would change about your truck. is i would put my name on the title. your truck is just Bitchin.
I agree. The patina on your truck is priceless. You can do a few simple upgrades to the 6-cylinder...headers, lightweight aluminum pulleys, port-n-polish, hi-po alternator, electric fan...maybe FiTech plug and play EFI ($$$)...but the 6 cylinder is more than capable. I bought a 240 that I'm building for a replica 1930's race car and it is indestructo!
I kept the drums on my '69 (F100, 360). They've stopped the truck for 49 years so far. Plus they are power brakes so I don't see the point of dishing out cash for discs. I'm blowing my $$ on fresh interior and reliability upgrades.
Uni moe I have a couple questions about the djm drop beams. Did you change out the factory front springs or leave them to get that height. Is the shackle kit for the back have just the shackles or do you change out the hanger also. I’ve been looking at those wheels also, did putting on a wider tire in the back fix the front bring wider that the back. Do you have any pics of looking at the truck for the rear and front on pics also. Does anyone know what one would do if I just left the trucks patina as is. Does something need to be put over it or just left alone I really don’t want it to rust anymore.

One of my springs was broke so I put in some used ones from my 74 parts truck. I used the DJM hangers and shackles. The wider tires filled the space more and solved the narrow track at the back. As for your patina, I'm no expert but you'd have to get that oxidization off with some fine sanding and spray the truck with a flat clear coat. Or just scrub it down real good and leave it alone.
I did the same thing, basically, as Unimoe. I bought all new springs but factory spec. Used DJM front and back. I did need a 4 degree shim to correct the driveshaft angle. My rims are equal width so the rear have additional offset. F=20x9 with 3.5 backspacing. R=20x9 with 6.0 backspacing. Tires are 245/40/20.
Suspension detail. The rear axle shot is before I added the shim. I failed to mention in prior reply I had to notch the frame. Sorry if confusing - these pics were taken at various stages of work with mock-up, old & new parts, etc.
