I picked up an 88 f250 with a 5.0 and a 4 speed for $400. Sat for a year and wouldn't do anything. Popped a battery in and changed the entire sending unit after discovering it had much water in the tank and rusted the unit in half. Tank was cleaned and oil was changed and Lucas also added. The truck now fires up within 2 seconds of the starter spinning. Idles for days with no issues. Now my problem is that on takeoff the truck bucks like no other and doesn't want to go 1st or 2nd. Once it gets moving it shifts perfect and drives fine until I come to a stop again. Plugs cap and rotor all still look brand new with no wear. The guy I bought it from drove it 3 hours home without issue but it was his sons and his son got into a 4 wheeler accident spending 3 months in ICU. So it sat. I had my FIL drive it as he drove log trucks in the 60/70's and knows standards well. He believes its misfiring under load. Another family friend said may have compression problems. Before I tear it down is there anything you guys think I should check first? Otherwise its in phenomenal shape with a gooseneck and all. Worth building up IMO. Any other info needed please let me know. Mileage is unknown. Only other issue is valve covers leak like a mF when attempt to drive it which I figure they rotted from sitting. This is in Texas so it went through a blazing summer and abnormally cold winter. Antifreeze is good and levels were good so no block crack issues apparent will be doing compression test when I get the time
