engine control module
I am trying to fix a 1987 F150 straight six 4.9L. Unfortunately I am not the first in to try to fix this bad boy and the previous guy has well....let's just say he has made this a bit more challenging than it should have been.
Thing is, it needs a new computer. The first guy on the scene took the old computer for a core charge and got a new one that did not work. Now we do not have the original part number or the calibration number (sticker missing on inside of door) to get the correct part number. I have been told that there were 31 different ECMs used for the 4.9L F150 in 1987 alone. I have also been told that there are really only two different ones for this engine type and a manual transmission - but rockauto.com does not list either part number I was given as a viable option.
Does anyone know the big hairy difference in these modules? Its not a CA car so honestly I don't care about emissions (am I allowed to say that?) , I just want to get it running again.
A wiring diagram for the module would be cool too.
Thanks for reading and I hope you can help me!

which will let you find the the correct ecm part number. Your best bet is to go to ebay and get one of the many Ford shop manuals on cd that they are selling. This is the simpilies way to get the wiring diagrams you need.
I'll check eBay for the shop manuals. Thanks for the heads up.
