My '84 F150 started doing that. The pop was the noise of the rusted out firewall flexing every time I depressed the clutch. Shored it up with a piece of angle iron, but water leaks in.

I would check the pushrod from the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder.

I have a 95' that did the same thing. Turned out to be the plastic bushing on the starter interlock switch. Follow the shaft that the clutch pedal is hung on over to where it is above the gas pedal. The end of the clutch master cylinder rod and start switch is there. If it is that--GET IT REPLACED! I let mine go then one day I went to shift into OD, and my cluth stayed on the floor--the bushing had finally given out and the clutch master cylinder rod fell off the shaft. I was on the side of Interstate 95 w/no phone. I ended up sliding it back on and putting a zip-tie in the groove to keep it from sliding off. Good luck, hope this helps.
