86 temp. sensor ?

I've got an 86 f150 302 w/eeciv efi. Is there more than one temp sensor?
I know there is one by the t-stat , but I need to know if there is another that feeds the computor. I see another small senor right up front on the manifold and I don't know what it is. I'm asking cause my smog pump is bypassing when the motor gets up to operating temp, causing a code 44r, and I've checked everything else.

86 temp. sensor ?

There is another engine temperature sensor on EEC engines. But as far as I know, it only provides information to the computer to advance the spark. The sensor to the left of the distributor, threaded horizontally into the heater hose fitting is the sensor that feeds the computer. It should test 1100-8000 ohm's resistance. The temp sensor to the right of the distributor screwed vertically into the manifold is the sensor for the dash gauge.

If your air pump is bypassing it could be one of the TAD/TAB solenoids are not working. Do you have two solenoid's on the valve cover, passenger side? If so they can easily be tested with an ohm meter. The guide I use says they should have 45-90 ohms resistance. If it tests 'open circuit', you know for sure it's bad.

Thanks HorsePuller.
I've got the TAB/TAD solenoids by the battery, in kind of a box. I've replaced both of them from parts from a junk yard, another 86 with the same part #., getting the same code 44r. The TAD and TAB are working and controlling vacum, but they 'let up' too soon and then I'm getting higher emissions. Checked for vacum leaks. Truck runs good. My HC emissions are right at the no pass point. The smog pump works, but starts dumping air when the truck warms up, instead of continuing to work and only dumping air after an extended idle period. I readjusted my throttle stop screw down to the death idle (unplugged) and then readjusted my TPS to 1 volt. One time when I did the KOER test I got code 41r ( oxygen senor low voltage, system lean) and no 44r. Next time no code 41r, just back to 44r.
Any thoughts?

Nope. But it'd probably be a good idea to go with your original thought's on the temp sensor and test it for resistance. Just in case engine temp is a factor in the command the computer gives to TAD/TAB.
