K&N & Turbo

Group, if this has been addressed please share the link.

I’ve heard K&N air filters are bad for turbo chargers because of the inherent oil in the filter. Has this been discussed and is there any real concern?

thank you.

I've seen the oil contamination of MAF sensors debunked, but I can't give you details as I didn't read the details.

As to the K & N, the "problem" I see is they let a lot more dirt get by than an OEM filter. Enough to be evident when the internals are inspected as in this thread. The pictures are posted earlier and the observation is in post 22:

Your OEM filter will pass more air than the engine can use. Any gains from the K & N and other intake changes would be at WOT near redline. Do you want to suck a little dirt for 2 to 5 HP at 4000+ RPM?

The stock filter holds more dirt at a higher micron efficiency than any oiled or non oiled washable filter. Ask K&N for their ISO 5001 efficiency report
