Question 240 Inline 6 Info

I was given a 71 f100 with a 240I-6 w/38k on it. I've been told that some people have hooked up 6 packs to them, what I'm wondering is are there any other mod's that people do to these engines. Just about everyone I talk to says they're almost impossible to kill, I don't want to kill it, I just want it to have a little more power than the original 1bbl carb that came on it.

basically the 240 is a little brother to the 300 so all the mods dont to the 300 could be used for the 240, i think. so just read through some threads and that'll give u a good idea. =)

Because the stroke is shorter, the 240 can rev higher -- and must rev higher. It has decent torque, but nothing like the 300 is famed for. Though the same mods can be done to both, you will have engines that perform in different ways.

A cheap first start that many people say improves performace is to ditch the old mechanical distributor for a duraspark dizzy. Then a MSD box can be used to play with the advance (if you get the right box), or at least give you a hot spark. For the stock look, Pertronix is a cool solution and performs well too.

Give clif*************** a try. I didn't put the exact link, as the site sometimes nukes non-advertizers. But you can figure it out. Lots of information, as well as parts that you might be interested in. Ponycarbs rebuilds/enhances the various carbs that came on ford sixes. They claim to help things a lot as well, but have more of a "keep the stock" look emphasis, as they cater to a lot of the classic 'stang crowd I think.

The usual line of thinking is first to "let her breath" with better headers. Of course, as always, the sky is the limit. I saw a nitrous setup on eBay a while back.

Have fun and keep posting.
