New 2003 Excursion 7.3
I have about 1000 miles on the vehicle. I'm looking to obtain the best fuel economy that I can. I once read some article that changing the air filter assembly out will make a notable difference in power and fuel economy. Is this true and if so which intake system works the best?
I'm wondering as the vehicle breaks in if the shifting changes. It seems to always get to around 40-45 mph when driving steady that it will finally shift into a the next gear. It seems like it is waiting to long to shift into the higher gear. Now if I floor it then it will shift and then stay in the higher gear even at the 40-45mph. Is this normal?
Thanks,
Jim
I had an '02 4x2 Ex with the 7.3L and 4 speed and that was my one real complaint about it...
the 4 speed was short bus stupid :-)
rarely seemed to be in the correct gear unless cruising on the highway @ 55 or higher...
If I was in an area with a speed limit < 45... the tranny would NEVER get into 4th until I accelerated PAST 45 and it dropped into 4th and THEN I could slow down to the speed limit...
But, I found that the superchips programmer helped with the performance and fuel mileage and DEFINETLY the fun factor...
other thing I would recomend is a Hellwig rear sway bar from JC Whitney if you don't have one... my outlay was < $175 installed for much improved handling !
