Ok I just rewired my alternator harness to the best of my ablility, installed new alternator and regulator took out for a ride and it was great.
About two hours later after going to the store got in started it up and the damn thing wasn't charging.
I hope to hell this isn't due to my wiring job. There is no "off draw" the battery has (for right now) 12.65V so that good and it still starts for now. The reg I have yet to really check out 'cause it got to dark. If I'm going to check it what's the best way to check both to make sure they're good?? If they are both good what would be next on the hit list. I starting to not like the truck, it was fine up until I took for a really nice long drive last week. The next day it died. I guess I pissed off the spirtit of the truck or something. I better stop now before it gets nasty.
Did you charge the battery before turning your engine on after the alt install?
too much of an amperage draw can really heat up the brushes and cause premature failure....
if you rewired the wiring harnesses one by one, then you shouldn't have any problems....remove both harnesses and check each one....chances are one or more came loose and created the mess you are in....
Just to be sure, take the alternator in to Kragen or Autozone and have them test it.....the test is free.
It's a new battery and the harness is good I just wasn't sure if the yel and yel/blu coming from the main harness go into the blk/org battery feed to the alt. Could it be possible that the choke wire could burn someting out??(blk/whit to carb)
Ok I'm out of "Bronco Hell" for now seems like the wife was right. She suggested replacing the stator wire that runs to the choke. The connector was a bit melted and I'm sure the wire was too. Rewired that got a new alt (it tested at 1V) and 200 miles later it stills works great. I guess my wiring diagram is good to go!!!!
