When it comes to replacing flat glass panels, has anyone taken stock glass (flat only) to a local glass shop and had them make a duplicate that installed successfully? I can purchase side glass and rear small window glass for my 56 Ford F-100's on line, but the shipping is pretty high. I just don't see why a local glass shop could not make a perfect reproduction and save a lot on shipping. I am only considering this option when I can provide an original to duplicate.
They can. Take a paper pattern from yours to a auto windshield place or your local glass shop. Tell them you want it duplicated.I used to work for a major glass fabricator and our customers were always doing flat glass replacements.
Went to 3 local glass shops for my 1954 F-100 side window glass and vent window and all were much higher cost then getting the glass from and including shipping from Mid 50's and on Ebay cheaper yet --- was very surprised in local shop prices---
I've had the glass in all of my old cars and trucks done that way. Recently though, none of the glass shops around here want to mess with cutting laminated glass anymore it seems...
I did that, I just took the old glass to a local glass cutters and they copied the whole lot (front, rear, both windows and both vents) for around £120... all in laminated glass.

I happened to work at a glass fabrication company in Washington state at the time I had my 52 F1 done which was $115 for all 6 pieces in clear and $145 for all 11 pieces for my 40 Buick sedan in standard grey,(30%) for all but the clear windshield. Not bad plus the crew who are all late teens happened to make an extra rear window for the F1 and 1 extra quarter window for the Buick. These were cut on a computer controlled laser guided (patterned from my original) water jet and came out so nice only light polishing was of the edges was required. With the stock crank mechanism they glide up and down like new.

I think the big reason more glass shops don’t do flat laminate is because they have to buy large 5x8 sheets in case quantities. I delivered to many glass shops over the last 10 years and saw a lot of nearly full cases at them. The owners have told me they just don’t have enough walk in work to justify keeping flat stock around.
