Sure looks like a 2-door? Very FJ Cruiser like under the wrap. A lot of good info on that article about Ford's SUV direction. A small "true off road capable" yet to be named SUV to fall under the Bronco and other news.
I saw that on another site. I hate to rain on y'all's parade but that could be anything sitting under that cover, including a first-gen Escape on steroids! It looks too small to be based on the new Ranger pickup, which Ford has all but confirmed that the Bronco will share a chassis with the Ranger. Get over it people, Ford is going to give you a 2020 Bronco, not a 1969 Bronco! Ford's CEO Jim Hackett has also been quoted as saying that if Ford remains frozen in the past, they will die. He said this when discussing future powertrain plans which call for more hybrids and electrics. Ford is also planning a two-pronged attack on Jeep. What you see pictured above will most likely be the baby brother to the Bronco, built to take on the Renegade. If that is true, it will definitely not have the huge wheels implied beneath the cover by the time it makes it to production. https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1115782_look-out-jeep-new-ford-bronco-teased-alongside-smaller-off-road-suv
Right now this is all just rumors anyway. I read somewhere else that the Bronco may get the 2.7 Ecoboost.

Yes it crossed my mind that it could be the concept or whatever under the cover. That would be the ultimate slap in the face. Reading different articles, it sounds like Ford may be shifting to a more truck and suv portfolio. Like they are about to offer some seriously capable off road vehicles. I hope....
Yeah, I hate to break it to everyone, but that is just a Bronco II with wheel flares and a spare tire bracket added. (and a couple of other aftermarket off-road add-ons)
You can even see the very 1980's side mirrors have been folded in on it.
I dunno, that windshield angle is pretty steep. I recon it will be a lot like the popular FJ Cruiser or Jeep like. Actually I recon it will be what the FJ Cruiser is to an FJ40. There is some stuff that needs to be changed to fit safety advancements, but you can't argue that the vintage look doesn't sell. In fact I recon they're taking a note on how well the 2005 Mustang did.
They have enough SUV's, they need something that's a proper 4x4. I don't think they'd waste the name on another SUV. Be like coming back with the Mustang and having it look like a Fusion. As someone who drives vintage, including a '69 Bronco, I'd personally like to see an improved version with that styling in it. If I wanted it to be just a first gen I'd just buy one. I'd like it to be more, but that does mean changes.
Or maybe I'm just love blind to the idea, who knows. Time will tell. Though I do recon if they where making a fake promo and the finished model looked nothing like that, people would be pissed. And that's not a good market strategy.
All I'm saying is the 2005 Mustang sure ended up looking a lot like it's prototype...
The problem is.... In my opinion.... That Ford seems convinced people are going to buy a vehicle based on "technology", rather than performance, style, attitude, etc. Ford seems fixated on SYNC, never mind that technology for most electronics is obsolete within five years. And I'm going to buy a $50,000 vehicle based on a SYNC system that will be obsolete before it's even paid off? It's one thing to pay $500 for a laptop that will be obsolete in a couple of years, quite another for a car or truck.
From Automotive News, March 15th
According to Jim Farley - Ford's president of international markets.... "He also said Ford will offer a "lineup of off-road SUVs," including a small, purpose-built SUV and the Bronco, which is arriving in 2020.
Farley said Ford was looking to target brands such as Jeep and Land Rover but with a different customer in mind. "Both of these vehicles are for a growing group of people who want to simplify their life and get out there with their family and friends," he said. "For Jeep, that's rock-crawling in Moab. For Ford, our people want true off-road vehicles that are comfortable at high speeds. They don't want SUVs that look like doomsday vehicles or have spartan, government-issued interiors."
Why target a brand? Shouldn't Ford be targeting CUSTOMERS? They are targeting a brand ...but with a different customer in mind. It sounds like too many focus groups. A high speed Bronco? I've never considered my Broncos high speed vehicles. LOL! If I wanted high speed I would buy another Mustang, or a Raptor or possibly a Ranger Raptor if Ford were to release one here, but NOT a short wheelbase Bronco. "People want to simplify their life......" Yet Ford will be marketing them heavily with SYNC 3.7.2b.... Or whatever it ends up being by 2020. I guess I'm just not "getting it". LOL!
I ain't sayin' nothin till the wraps come off. Until they prove me wrong, I'm convinced that we're getting a Ford Everest. The Everest is a great vehicle according to all t hat I've read but it ain't got the attitude of a Bronco.
