Gears

I have a gasser with 3.73 gears and I want some more pep in the step. Besides the 4.30 oem gears, what brand and sizes are available out there?

thanks

What size tires are you running? Most guys run 35's and they simply suck the power out of a 6.2, some 4.56's will put it back where it needs to be, given the option I would run a 4.88 with 35's as that would allow the 6.2 to pull in 5th/6th.

I just went to 35's the other day. 4.56 and sounds good.

I wouldn't jump to 4.56 is all you are going to run is 35's. I believe a truck with 37's and 4.30 is still geared lower than a truck with 33's and 3.73.

I have a 6.2 with 4.30’s and installed 35’s a few months ago. The truck had the 275/70/18’s and it should have changed my effective ratio to about a 4.1 or so. That’s what I remember looking up prior to making the tire change. The seat of the pants feel isn’t much different in acceleration or performance either. My mileage hasn’t changed enough to notice either. I just found a tire size/gear calculator online and you can enter in your combinations and it will give you the effective ratio.

Many like Yukon. Randy's is a popular place to check what's available and order. Since you have a gasser, you have the Sterling 10.5 as opposed to the DANA M275. I tried looking up a 2017 on Randy's site and they only show M275 options that fit the 6.7. However, I searched by Ford 10.5 and see all the options for your Sterling diff. Don't forget, since your 4x4, you'll need to do the front too. https://www.ringpinion.com/DiffWizard.aspx

Don't fear the gear.

4.30 is a waste of $2000. If you're going to do it, go 4.56 (36") or 4.88 (38"). 4.30 is hardly an improvement with the gasser, maybe perfect with the diesel though. Yukon has the proper gears. Add a Yukon Grizzly locker up front at the same time, or the zip locker if you can't handle a Detroit style diff. It's only $500 more and takes the F250 Fx4 to Powerwagon levels of 4x4 competence.

lim running 35's now but I may opt for 37's. How does Yukon 4.88 sound with this set up? Or would 4.56 suffice? What rpm do those run at 70 mph?

thanks
