Windshield locking chrome trim replacement options.
I recently replaced the front windshield chrome locking strip/trim to replace the original faded/shrunk trim in my 78 f250. I put the trim I got from JBG which Im pretty sure is from dennis carpenter in less than 6 months ago then parked the truck for winter shortly after. Unfortunately the truck has to live outside and I guess the wind blew the chrome coating right off of the trim.
Anyways can anyone vouch for any trim from somewhere other than dennis carpenter? Lmc or other? I would only like to do this once more since it is kinda a pain in the but to install. Thanks

1977 F100/350 fromserial number O80,001, 1978/79 F100/350 and Bronco have a one piece flexible plastic chrome windshield reveal moulding, the weatherstrip is also specific to it.
1973/76 F100/350, 1977 F100/350 before serial number O80,001 have stainless steel windshield reveal mouldings (see pic below), use a specific windshield weatherstrip.
Hey Number Dummy.....His truck is a 78 and the illustrations give numbers for a 73/77. Are they the same for the 78/79? Does anyone have the NOS locking strip/trim and/or the rubber seal? I'm looking for both also.
I used lock strip from Precision, I think they're from Michigan. Did the same thing as your did, after 6 months it started flaking off. Just cheaply made crap. What I think ND is saying is replace your seal with one from a '73-'77 so you can use the actual chromed metal trim around the windshield.

1977 F100/350 from serial number O80,001, 1978/79: Both the one piece plastic chrome windshield reveal moulding and specific weatherstrip are reproduced by Carpenter.
When I had the windshield replaced in my 79 F150, I asked the company doing the work if they had the chrome strip. They said they did & sent it with the installer. It was included with the price of the new windshield, no extra charge. That was 14 or so years ago, & it has held up fine, looks like the day it was installed.
So, maybe check with a windshield installer & see what they offer.
Glass shop replaced the chrome-looking versions in my '79 when the new windshiled went in, plus they put in new ones around the supercab windows (at my request) since the 39-yr-old versions weren't so pretty anymore.
So number dummy, on my 79SCab, iif I tell the glass installer I have a 73,4,5.or 6 then in theory he would install the rubber that would be good for the stainless?
Any dealer have some on hand?(stainless)
I ordered Precision Replacement Parts seals five years ago when I repainted my truck. In less than four months, the "chrome" peeled off. Also, the window seals are already crispy and dry rotted. Would not recommend PRP.
As usual most of the reproduction parts are crap. but it is what it is. keep it under cover and it lasts a it longer.
All you need is the lockstrip and the right tool. I use a Liesle brand tool and window cleaner to lubricate it and I've done lots of windows. the older the gasket is the harder it is but as long as they aren't rock solid you can do it.
