I think that's a misnomre for Ford engine families.
If you walk into a typical auto store and tell them you need a starter for a Ford big block, you'll probably get one for a 429/460.
The FE motors are "FE" motors.
The Big Block/Small Block label came from the Chevy/GM engines as best I can tell.
Now, if you want to call and FE a Big Block because it's heavy, that's another deal :-)
