After doing some research on aluminum replacement pulleys I now can't decide which way to go: Traditional pulleys or a serpentine set-up? I don't really see any advantages one way or the other. My truck (FE, 360) has had regular pulleys for 49 years but the serpentine systems look kinda' Mad Max. I have just an alternator...no power steering or a/c (and don't ever plan on getting those).
What engine are we talking about here? FEs ceased production at the end of '76 so, no factory serpentine pulleys/brackets for that engine. If you have a 240/300 or a 302, factory serpentine parts can be swapped on.
If it's an FE engine, you would have to source aftermarket components to run a serpentine drive system.
It is all up to personal preference. If you want to spend the money, do it. I think the old V belt is more then adequate. Pretty sure they don't offer a spring tensioner so you will still have to deal with tightening it yourself. For just the alternator and water pump I don't see the advantage.

Since you are only running an Alt there is absolutely zero advantage and likely a few negatives (besides cost) going to a serpentine system.

DITTO. Don't even see an ascetic (sp?)value? ( sorry Brian ). I'd spend the money elsewhere. Any ideas on what you are going to do with the truck or is it just going to be a play toy?
If your desire is to go from V-belt to serpentine and you're willing to spend whatever, do it.
I have all the stuff from an '87 4.9L (fuel injected 300) to put serpentine on my inline 6 300. The only thing I would have to work around is the A/C compressor (my truck doesn't currently have A/C) and deletion of the smog pump.
I could get an A/C and smog delete pulleys to put on. This would keep the belt at its standard length which for the purposes of belt replacement would keep it simple, rather than trying to figure out and run a shorter belt that may not be stocked at most any parts stores most anywhere.
....my 240 head does not have the threaded hole towards the forward, left side that one of the serpentine bracket bolts goes into, like is on the '87-'96 4.9L heads but, I think it would probably work without it. I haven't totally made my mind up for sure on using this but, it is an option for me.
When I got home from the wrecking yard with these parts 3 or 4 years ago. .....they aren't dirty like this any more.

I currently use it regularly for hardware store runs and plowing the driveway. It is also serving as a mechanical experimental playground for all things FE-related. I've been a VW/BMW/Porsche guru for the last 30 years so it is nice to work on a carbureted, non-electronic, American V-8 for a change. I'm really only looking to do a 4-barrel and headers. I've already ditched the PVC set-up and went with an electronic distributor. The exhaust fell out last year and I replaced it with a true dual set-up exiting out the sides. I'm not planning on anything crazy...just a few performance related changes as I go, headliner, seat upholstery, and decide on a paint for the already smoothed and primered body. (If the engine ever gives up the ghost I'll bore and stroke it to 427, just because I can. Besides, I like odd numbers...
Speaking of upholstery, I want to do a real Tartan plaid fabric for the seats, visors, and arm rests. My family is from Clan Thomas in Scotland and it would be kind of cool to have real Clan Thomas tartan as a seat material.

If you can get it, you should get a roll of plastic applique in that tartan pattern, and put it on the sides of your truck (like the faux-woodies used to do). *THAT* would be a statement!
I'd save the time, effort and money for more bang for the buck type of things: disk brakes, 3G alternator, Alum heads, high output water pump, electric rad fans, LEDs all around

-I got the 3G alternator from a Taurus (need to install) and am waiting for warm weather to install the electric fan.
-My truck runs pretty cool as it is with the stock pump...although I might get a HO pump if it ever needs replacement.
-I put in LED taillights...but, honestly, the irony is inescapable: Why put in a 3G alternator just to then go and install LED lights? LEDs + stock alternator should be enough...
-Discs vs. drums: I figured that my truck stopped fine with drums for 49 years (with a camper on the back)...I am NOT going through all the hassle of putting in discs. I'd rather spend the money on an intake and 4 bbl/EFI.
-Aluminum heads: I'm on the fence with this one.
I did Serp on 77 bronc with roller 347 and water pump rotation is reversed for belt wrap so inlet is on opposite side. Have to fab custom lower hose or buy custom $$$$$ radiator with in/out reversed.
FE has only regular rotation pumps availble so I assume belt would wrap pump ribs down.
I second the links to //www.cvfracing.com and https://www.summitracing.com/?ibanner=HP60NavSRE1 I have been looking at upgrade parts for a long time and am dangerous with a credit card and a catalog. I run cvf racing serpentine setup and i really like it. Was a time when it was either show or go but now advances has made it possible to have show and go. I did the power steering pump and pulley setup and am eyeballing future upgrades as my 460 doesn't seem to like the hot summers here so an nice new shiny water pump is in the future also. Now if your looking at a electric fan assembly i have looked at this part also https://www.summitracing.com/search/...lectric%20Fans. Man i haven't been on the FTE site for about 4 years now but love the wealth of knowledge that people choose to share with everyone on here. To me the site is different now so if i messed one of the link thingy's up then that means i have forgotten how to use the site lol. Have a fantastic day and remember to hide the parts and your credit card statement if you have a partner as they don't seem to understand sometimes about upgrades.
