hey guys just curious if anybody has upgraded from 4 inch to 8 inch screen in the radio. I see there is a couple company's that offer this but at 2600 I can think it can be done cheaper? Anybody done this?
There is a guy over on F150forum.com, “TexasFording” who can assist as well. Probably a little cheaper than 4D or infotainment.
definately need new APIM (nav or no nav), screen, new dash bezel which depends on truck options, Media Hub/ USB ports, and most importantly the harnesses. Looks like some people have cobbled together these harnesses from parts, or 4D sells them separately if you can source everything else yourself.
Curious what is involved from the Forscan perspective. Looks like maybe VIN into APIM, anything else?

Yes, this conversion is pricey but depending on what factory options you want and where you purchase it from, you`re still going to be in the $1500-$2000 range.
If you don`t care about keeping it factory, a new aftermarket head unit will be a cheaper alternative and yes, there are dash kits available for an aftermarket radio.

4D wouldn't sell the harness separate to me. I found a salvaged f150 I was gonna get screen apim and bezel from but the harness was holding me back. Really need that plug and play harness

It's on there website store as a separate option for 300, with a disclaimer "no support"

wow there selling them now lol. I phoned before and was shut down. Do they sell there can opener thing to get it all working. Or is that something I can do with forscan?
Sub'd I hate the 4.2 screen and would love to do the 8" Sync 3 into my XLT as well. I bought a RA4 Uconnect for my Ram before my Ford from Infotainment and it was only $1300 with Nav and it was a better system imo, but seriously $2500 considering it was only a $500 option from the factory. We just need to figure out how to get the VIN Reprogrammed in the Radio with ForScan and get a harness or build your own.
I upgraded a sync 2 to sync 3 in my 2015 Navigator. Should just be a straight forward upgrade. There are tons of people who have done this in all kinds of ford vehicles. If you want to save the money vs the prepackaged deals you will need to source your parts (eBay, junkyards) and be comfortable with Forscan to program your sync 3. Overall difficult out of 10: 4

I am almost certain this can be done with Forscan. The CANopener just automates the process so they can sell these packages as DIY.
I think they ask for the VIN so they can get your as-builts, and make necessary changes and load the files in the CAN opener to automatically write your APIM with the correct files. Poking around some other Ford forums, it looks like others have also found similar vehicles as theirs with Sync3, and downloaded their as-builts to load into APIM,
Hopefully someone experienced in this will pop in,
Based on their chart, pretty sure it will be "A" even though they don't specifically list SuperDuty. You will also need the adapter pigtail for backup camera.
Pretty sure it would work unless the wiring for the HVAC climate control stuff is different. You would be surprised how much of the interior is exactly the same. An article I was reading regarding the 2017+ Superduty stated the 15-Present F150 and 17+ Superduties are identical from "A" Pillar to "C" Pillar.
I have used ForScan quite a bit on my truck so modifying code is not a huge deal for me but knowing what to change is a different story.

There are a couple of differences. Super Duty has the upper glove box, F-150 does not. SD also has the collapsible bins under the rear seats, F-150 does not. The instrument clusters are different...speedometer only goes to 100 on an SD, 120 on an F-150. Diesel instrument clusters have lower-reading tachometers and a turbo gauge. Some F-150's have the auto engine shut off button; diesel Super Dutys have the engine brake button. So there are a few differences, but most things in the cab are 100% interchangeable. Climate controls are the same.
