Hi all, just trying to narrow down the possibilities for my ESOF not working. I have a 2000 f-250 powerstroke, when I engage the 4x4, (all fuses have been checked), I can physically hear the shift motor trying to engage my transfer case into 4x4, yet I do not hear any clicks that would indicate it had shifted. I also do not get any 4x4 lights on my dash period. I’m assuming it’s just a worn out motor but wanted to run it by a few more brains that understand electronics much more thoroughly than myself prior to spending the cash on a motor.
Yes, I checked that to rule out the hub being the problem, also did a check with the ac vents to see if I had a vacuum leak. Even with the hubs engaged the 4x4 light is not present and I do not actually hear the transfer case engage. All I hear when I switch into 4x4 is what I can best describe as a warn starter gear trying to spin(slightly quieter) in a series of five attempts to switch gears in the transfer case.
With the hubs manually locked, switch the 4x4 on and then slowly drive it in a kind of tight circle to see if you feel if there’s binding. If you do feel it, then it definitely engaged the transfer case.
If it’s definitely not actually in 4wd, when you’re stopped with your foot on the brake, put it in neutral and the try the 4wd selector again. I’ve had issues a few times trying to get it out if 4lo whereby it took awhile to disengage. I know that’s not your issue, but doesn’t hurt to give it a shot. Even try putting it in 4lo.
