I'm starting to look for a newer Ranger to replace my "old faithful." The Haynes manual for the later model Rangers says that the 2.3L DOHC four cylinder can't be overhauled. Is that true? Thanks.
the early ones had a special saddle/girdle that took the place of the entire bottom end, bearing, main caps.
by 05 they supposedly went to a traditional bearing and main cap setup.
check some parts venders to see if they sell pistons and bearings for 05+ models.
my 05 currently has 334,500 miles on it. these run great with virtually no need for maintenance other that consumables.
