Gear Swap
My '84 (stock 302/C6) does nothing but tow my bassboat. With the 3.55 gears gas mileage is abysmal at best. Has anybody ever swapped to a longer ratio ? Can anybody comment on what might be available. I know I'd have to change out both axles but I figure it would pay for itself in about 1 season

These are just two locations for you can look up many available gear ratios for each axle type. Just be careful going too far in either direction for fear of pushing the engine too far out of its power band. Just FYI the typical calculator for gearing-to-tire size is: MPH x gear ratio x 336 / tire diameter = RPM
With overdrive trannies: MPH x gear ratio x OD ratio x 336 / tire diameter = RPM
If you know what the engine turns at say 60 mph with its current gearing, you can plug in the different ratios and determine where the rpm's will be after the change.
