Fenders, what was the result of the install you did? Maybe I missed it, but don't recall your end result. I've just received my Rod Doors panels,[got em' all] and researched your original thread. It seemed to end with a discussion of adhesives.Any update that might be helpfull? Thanks.
It turned out to be one of the highlights of my truck. I will have to dig up the thread. I could have sworn I brought it back up and finished the conversation. Regarding the adhesives, it turns out that it is one of the most important decisions you make. What kind of fabric are you using. Not that I am an expert on textiles by any stretch. Cloth, leather, Pleather, tweed???
You probably did and I probably saw it. However if it was more than a week ago I've forgotten it. Just couldn't find the thread. It will be cloth or tweed probably. For now I am going to do a trial fit of the panels. It may sound dumb, but I might just leave it that way for awhile. I have a "new", 90's C---y seat that is a speckeled black/gray color in it now, so I think the black panels would be ok for awhile. While the seat is great looking and fits great, I'm not real pleased about the way it "sits". It has 3 formed spots in it and that places the driver posistion somewhat left of center, I'm not sure I'll like it. Hope that is not too hard to understand.I really was interested in how you felt about fit and installation of the panels so that I might have a better feel about a trial fit. Thanks, Joe
Hey Joe, fenders is right about the adhesive. I am just now installing my Rod Doors panels. The 3M 90 works great. Nice lacey spray pattern. But the stuff for the high temp (08090) is a mess. It sprays out in globs which is bad because it may soak thru your material.. Also, be very sure to sand the surface and then clean it before applying glue and material. Otherwise it will come off. Good luck, John
Here's the thread. If you have any questions ask it on the old thread and we'll have our info in one handy place when the subject comes back up. May fabric seems to be sticking well so I think our painfully long glue research is fairly sound. I don't think tweed is the easiest route for this. We can start with that subject if you'd like.
Thanks 'Fenders. I completely missed the fact that the thread was three pages. I've got it all now.Any more questions will be asked on the original thread.Joe
Hey Joe, just a matter of protocol, but fenders is spelled with a small f. If you give him too much respect his head swells to the point that he can't get in the truck. John
