If you are interested we have a general BS thread going here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post17931786

and we are planning a get together here....a grand BS session and we usually have a very good time out in the desert under the windmills.

My only complaint is that the bottom step of the camper is too far off the ground so I bought a step/platform with folding legs that makes that first step a little more comfortable for us.
Hey Stanbro,

What is your door sticker say for max cargo on your truck? We love the 1200 but I am concerned at the weight. My 17 F350 DRW say 5283lbs.
I gathered from other threads bobv60 is running a F450 with a lower weight.
Thanks.

For what it is worth we are considering downsizing from a 5th wheel toy hauler to this camper for the lack of spontaneity the long 5th wheel brings. Love the space when we get there though.

I had a 2011 F450 which has the same tires and rear axle as the F350, and just 50lbs more GVW (13,050) than the same year F350DRW.
it also has 13.5" brakes, in about 2014 all super dutys got 14.3" brakes. At the same time both the F350DRW and the F450 got the max class 3 rating of 14,000 GVW. 2015 Ford went back to the larger DANA 110 or 130 rear axle on the F450 with 19.5 tires and wheels. This makes the truck much more capible, but still the 14,000lbs GVW, again, to keep it as a class 3 truck.
We put about 10,000 miles with the camper's on the 2011, never had a problem, even in 110 degree heat.
I was within 500lbs of the max TIRE capacity on the rear axle, and about 1,500lbs the max capacity of the rear axle that DANA states for the 80 axle.
I recently purchased a 2018 F450. It jas the DANA 300 (starting in 2017 the f350DRW and F450 got the DANA M300, F450 has larger axle half shafts)rear axle, rated by DANA to 16,000lbs. It also has 15.5" and 15.75" brakes, and the 19.5 tires.
the tires on the rear axle are good the 15,000lbs, that is JUST the rear axle.
it really is a much heaverier duty truck that the F350DRW.
With all that said, now that I have had the camperr on both trucks, the 2011 F450 did as good of job.
I have a lot more margin to the max capacitys of tire and axle, and the new truck has a lot of features that make it much safer.
So I will say for the most part the 2011 and newer F350DRW and F450 will both handle a 1200.
both my trucks have air bags and upper torklift stableloads. The 2011 need 90psi in the bags, the 2018 needs only 60.
If you are strictly worried about the door sticker weight you WILL NOT find a pickup that will handle the large triple slide campers. The DRW trucks made today can and do handle the weight, but usually require some madifacations
