My ex-wife drives a 2006 Freestyle with the CVT and AWD. She has been having problems with cold weather (below freezing) preventing the transmission from engaging Drive. It sticks in Park. Now, she cannot drive more than about 30 MPH.
Anyone know about these CVTs? I do not. Are there relays which fail? Troubleshooting tips?

Thanks in advance for advice.
I am amazed that a 2006 Ford Freestyle with CVT is still on the road...I thought those Ford CVT's proved to be a total disaster. I assume you have posted in multiple Forums?
You need to check for the TCM codes. Most issues with the CVT are related to the metatronics in the transmission itself. The TCM is incorporated in the valve body and are pricey.
