cool down proceedure

Here is a newer/revisited question for you all.

When you guys are flogging the truck hard how long do you wait to cool down?

Do you use the water temp gauge/ or the exhaust temp gauge to determine when it is safe?

Currently I wait until my exhaust temps get to the low 200's before shutting it off.

Do you watch oil temp? It's oil that lubricates the turbocharger, if that's your concern.

I don't have an oil temp gauge yet...it is on the to do list... oil temp, oil pressure, and water temp actually... it not a huge concern currently but I was thinking about it this weekend and wanted to get everyone's opinions.

What kinds of ranges on the gauges do you guys run for oil temp, oil pressure, and water temp gauges?

I know for egt the offer a 1500 degree and a 2000 degree gauge...

For fuel pressure there was a 40psi and a 100 psi... I had mistakenly got the 40 psi gauge at first...but they let me swap it for the 100 after the fact.

You already have an oil temp gauge. It's the PCM. Get a device that reads live data and set it for EOT, ICP, IPR duty cycle, etc.

Lee, I run 200° to 220° pulling hard on my EOT. If you wait until 200° on EOT then you have a lot more patience then I do, lol.

Unfortunately my Bluetooth dongle quit interfacing with the computers in my vehicles after 2 years of use... not really planning on spending another $140 on a good one to go bad 2 years later...

I've never used Bluetooth, but my USB ELM327 dongle was aprx. $20, and a quick look at Amazon indicates the Bluetooth versions are in the same range.

Are you using torque with that or another app?

For diagnostics / "driveway" communication, I'm using ForScan. This is with a USB ELM dongle and a Windows laptop. For gauge data while underway, I bought an Aeroforce Interceptor many years ago. $$$$'y, but it works. If you have a smart phone or other Android device small enough to use while underway, you should be able to communicate using Torque Pro.
