I will. It will be this weekend before I go pick up the other center section and I hope to get to work on it next week. Thanks to all, for the information and opinions .
Okay, I got the rear gear changed out and took it for a test drive last evening. With this 2.55 gear now, behind the C6 and the 29 inch tall tires I'm pretty pleased with what I ended up with. At 70 mph I'm turning 23 hundred rpm and didn't lose as much on take off as I thought it would. Now I've got to get my speedometer gear changed. It was off about 5 mph before, and now it off about 15 mph.
that will increase your mpg by a few miles,i had mine yrs ago 2.75 gears and 31s , was low 20s on flat highway ground,fe engines had good tq around 1700-2200 rpm.
Did you have to change your speedometer gear ? If so, do you remember which one you used ? Most of what I've seen are 16 teeth up to 21 teeth. I've got to check mine to see what gear it is now , but I'm not sure which way to go with the teeth count , but at 65 mph my speedometer was only reading 51 to 52 mph. Maybe someone on here can lead me which way I need to go , either up or down with the tooth count. Thanks !

Ford did/does only make 16-21 tooth driven gears. To speed up the speedo you want "less" teeth on the driven gear. 15MPH off is approx. 4 teeth.
If Ford doesn't make a speedo gear that will fit your situation, various aftermarket companies make speedometer ratio adaptors. They fit in between the tranny and speedo cable. They can build it to give you any adapting ration you need.
This is one such place. One of the two stores may have closed.
Mine don't have the nylon type gear, I wished it did because those are more simple. If you will look down a few post, you will see another post from me titled ,( Transmission Identification ) Scroll down to the picture I posted and you will see the type speedometer cable my C6 has on it.It has the metal gear inside of the housing that has to be changed.According to what information I have found out so far this C6 came out in a 1972 F600. Also on that same post if you scroll down lower there is a gear chart that " Number Dummy " posted with the different type gears. The type gear mine has is the metal gear ( type 5 ) .My gear has these numbers stamped on it ( 01T-71 & A-18 ) If I cant find a gear to change it to get my speedometer a little closer than 15 mph off, I guess I will have to go with one of these aftermarket ratio adaptors. Thanks !

I just grabbed a pic off of g**gle for an example. Which style of gear you have for a ratio adaptor doesn't matter for my info. It sure does if you go to order one though. Which, if were me, I'd jump right to a ratio adaptor and skip trying to find what gear you need. Ford prolly never made one 4 teeth away from which ever one you have now.
