I am interested in knowing what year 4x4 trucks would have come with SBF pattern 4R75W transmissions. I understand this non-electronic AOD was used in later model F150 behind the V6 (3.8L / 4.2L).
I am working out components for my '76 Jeep J10 which I have a 351w stroker I planned to use. The easy choice is obviously an 80's C6 from Bronco / F-truck. But given the lower 1st gear and OD the AOD is something I'd like to consider. Not that this will be used for much long drives or regular commuting.
The Windsor is a carbureted 414 incher with Edelbrock 190cc RPM heads at roughly 9.8:1 CR. Should be good for around 400hp / 400+ ft lbs. The 4R75W wouldn't need much help to survive those levels from what I read.

That is a 2003+ transmission but I got some bad news for you... all 4R7X transmissions are definitely 100% computer controlled, the only Ford auto overdrive that is all mechanical is the '80s to early '90s AOD.
Thanks for the info Conanski, thats exactly what I needed to know. I have since read about guys using some of the stronger 4R75W internals in earlier AOD cases, this may be too much trouble for my tastes. May be best to go C6 and choose the best compromise on axle ratio.
