I am very close to purchasing a new Superduty as I am going to be towing more and it will overload the ratings on my existing truck (Titan). I will be towing about 10K - 12K quite a bit.
I am looking at several units and pretty have the options I want with them this includes:
F250
Powerstroke Option
Lariat Ultimate Package
Short Box, Crew Cab, 4X4
Tow Tech
LED Lamps
Upfitter Switches
3.55 Axel
Moonroof
BLIS, and adaptive steering
Running Boards
This will be my first diesel and first thing I will be towing that much weight with. Is there something I'm missing? Should I look for the F350 instead? I do want a single wheel and not the dual.
I will be test driving some today here is the pricing I currently have on one '17 and one '18
'17 MSRP at 72270 offered to me at 64944 about 10%
'18 MSRP at 72915 offered to me at 66551 about 9%
The price difference between a F-250, and a F-350 is only $1200. That gets you a big jump in payload capacity. Payload is the true limiting factor for towing. This will give you future towing options if you ever need it, and payload to spare.
I went with a F-350 for this reason. I also went with a 8 foot bed to get the 48 gallon fuel tank.
No regrets at all.
I just went through similar macinations. After lots of reading on this forum and test driving 250s and 350s i change my mind and ordered a 350... now waiting for delivery
I would delete the sunroof if your at all worried about them, I like mine, but I am on my 5th one and really like the pano roof and power slider.
F350 for sure, camper package and cert for sway bar on a F350, cab lights, heavy front service package, 5th wheel and good neck prep is a must.
I really like my LED headlights, you may want to look at those as an option, in my opinion a must have. Best lighting on a stock truck I have ebpven had.
I second the long box for the capacity of the box, not needing a slider fifth wheel hitch, AND the fuel capacity of 48 gallons of diesel.
Some of the ordering and options are different for you than they are up here in Canada, so for sure check and double check if doing an order, or if off a lot or another lot be sure to look at the window sticker for all desired options.
If you go fifth wheel and short bed, you will need a slider hitch, had one, like the long bed much better with fixed hitch vice the slider, and the 48 gallon tank.
Plus all the extra room in the bed while you tow is really nice.
F250 would work for you, but will you need more later? Maybe, cheaper now to get to to get new truck later. Look at the towing guides and see how much cushion you have, at 12k and F 250, not much if you ever go bigger.
Thanks for all the great replies. I have started to look at the 350's as opposed to the 250's there just doesn't seem to be much of a selection of them on dealer lots. Everyone must have followed advice that was posted here and bought 350's.
I do like the sunroof and shocked that you have had 5 maybe I should rethink that? I am not worried about it but I have read some of the issues.
Currently I am looking on dealer lots I have a dealer that I work with but their selection of 350's is smaller than the 250's. I have settled on the LED lights I went out and test drove one with them and I do like them. Wife also really liked the power running boards on the unit we drove.
If you have the time to wait, order a F350 with what you want on it. Last fall it took about 8 weeks to get mine, not sure how fast the are squirting them out now. Also, get the tail gate step, these trucks are tall.
I ordered a replacement truck 2 weeks ago (mine got hit..)
I'd looked at hundreds of trucks from San Francisco to Dallas to find a 350 Lariat Ultimate without the Moonroof...
Ended up ordering.
Good luck!

And the tow camera system.
agree with almost all comments
my two cents here. Definitely order it just don’t wait long cause in June the ‘19s will be on the line and you won’t get one. Secondly make a list of must have vs nice to have then calculate the option Wt of each build. Like me I quickly dropped several nice to have items as the loss of payload wasn’t worth it. Example power running boards are surprisingly heavier then the extended ones. Moonroof is a good chunk. Chrome package (heavier rims etc). The long box is nice but does lower the payload a bit as well. If you’re in the 5er market and want to stick with the short box I recommend looking at Open Range Light models. You can tow via gooseneck or 5th wheel without a slider. Best of all you get your bed back in 10 seconds (if you option the bed step lol) with the gooseneck option OR light model and warranty is not voided. My 2015 ORF311FLR frame has held up very well hauling gooseneck 2 years now.
I did some quick checking with the specs you posted and changed to the 1 ton and theres only a handful out there with those exact specs in Ford's Vehicle Locator. The ones I did find we closer to 75k sticker which at that point its pretty much a Platinum trim level. I would say either order one if you are dead set on the lariat or make the small jump for the Platinum since there are more of those out there that meet your specs. And I do have a 17 350 Platinum that would work
