Dang! Mike Glad you are ok!! Hard to do anything when you are stopped.... Dash cams are in everything I drive just for something like what happened to you.

Are you going to do a buy-back and put that power plant into another dent?

.

Sheeit, what a way to start a vacation. Glad you're not hurt!

Interesting crumple zone on your vehicle, though.

I just want to thank you guys for all your well wishes. I'm fine, the truck, not so much.
As for buying it back from the insurance company, I'm not going to do that. The truck was in great shape, dependable and reliable but it has almost a quarter million miles on it (246,600+).
I avoided the known issues that the 5.4 3V has and don't want to push my luck.
I hate to see it go. I tend to become attached to my vehicles (plus, I hate the idea of having to spend $30-40,000 that I didn't plan on ).

Wow, that was scary! Glad you are OK - that could have gone worse.

Look at the bright side, this could have been your maiden voyage in the Pumpkin once it finally gets on the road. Better to get the bad JuJu out of the way on your daily driver.

Good thing you were in a truck and not a car, that Nissan would have been in your face. There is no substitute for GVWR.....

Thanks, yeah that thought's crossed my mind several time. I wonder if I can drive the Pumpkin wrapped in a couple of hundred yards of bubble wrap?

Hey Rich, hope your vacation was more fun and less "exciting" than mine .

Yeah, what saved my a$$ was the windshield post. That was strong enough to deflect the truck.

Smart a$$ .
Let's see, the way that works. I'm awarded $100K, the insurance co sends it to my fly by night attorney. He deducts his 40% ($40K) his expenses ($65K) and sends me a bill for $5K! Yeah, that works .

Glad your okay Mike, could have gone a lot worse with how it came up on the driver side. Hopefully insurance will do you justice. I too live in Florida, so I know all about the quality of drivers we have here

Yeah, the Titan driver didn't have a driver's license! The odd thing is "supposedly" he has insurance (!).
I did a search on his insurance company and it wasn't good. Looks like it's one of those "send us some money and you can say you have insurance" companies. I read 101 reviews on them. Out of a 101 reviews 2 left more than one star! A lot of the reviews said the only reason they left one is because they had to to leave a review. A lot said they wanted to leave no stars and several said they wanted to leave a negative star rating.
Regardless, because the at fault driver has no license, I can see his insurance co using that as their "get out of jail free" card. "Hey, he was driving illegally so we don't have to cover him."
I'm letting my insurance co deal with it and have already pretty much written off my deductible as "uncollectable". We'll see how this plays out.

Yeah, we think the purpose of good insurance is to make us whole. It never does. And shakey insurance, well...
