There is always the possibility of an out of the box faulty IDM. it is a reman from Ebay with a lifetime warranty. Wish there was a way to test it. I am looking for a compatible vehicle to put it in and try it out.

Any vehicle with a 7.3 will work, the only thing the Superduties are kind of a pain to get to as the drivers side inner fender has to come out to get to the IDM.

Ok, I found it, fixed it and it runs like designed. I had been researching and read about disconnecting one set, starting up to see if it would come up on 6 instead of 4. I did that and that worked to isolate to 5 or 7. So I started pinning it out again and moving the connector would show a short to ground. pulled everything apart and one of the wires to #7 had been pinched under the valve cover hold down bolt. I am assuming it wouldn't read to ground in the pin out test but once the idm put power to the circuit it was enough to cause a fault.

I appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge and willingness to jump in with experience and ideas. I would still be dead in the water without support from those with more knowledge than me, which is most!

Great troubleshooting job, thanks for getting back with the fix. Yes, the IDM is pretty picky when running, just to protect itself. You made a good point though, unplug then restart .. good job.

That's a hell of a find.
Awesome.

All the technical expertise from different posts, idm auto protect, isolating sets of injectors, pinning out the harness, etc. as well as support from everyone who has "been there done that", makes all the difference. I had no clue but we really needed this truck!

I just repaired a similar problem with my 95. The left bank was not working, terrible idle and no power. Tested the wiring to injectors from the UVCH and IDM connector, all measured correctly. I was just about to order an IDM but thought I would take one more measurement. By accident I found continuity from the injector to glow plug in the UVCH. Photo below shows the problem. I had no glow plug continuity but 16 ohms injector pins to glow pin. Replaced valve cover gaskets just in case.
Thanks for all the assistance,
Larry
