2017+ Issues

Hello folks, I have a few questions. Your input is appreciated.
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a 2017 Platinum. It has been sitting on their lot for 300+ days. It has a built day of 2-21-17 I assume that's the date since it is at the bottom/middle of the window sticker. Is this considered a late last second 2017 MY build that has any early 17 issues resolved? Am I better off getting an 18 Lariat Ultimate Package? They are giving me a nice deal on the 17 though.

thanks

Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate on one that has been sitting on the lot. If it has the options you want and is priced to sell, may be worth going for it. Ultimately, you have to make the decision. Keep us posted.

If it was built in Feb I don't think it's a late last second. I picked my truck up off the lot mid October, had a built date of 9/15/17, that was getting toward the end of job2. Either way if it's what you want, it's got a great factory warranty and I'd pull the trigger.

Ok, I just noticed there were a lot built after that, so yes, it was not a late run but you are saying that it is not the early runs either?
It's a 5K difference from the 18 Lariat Ultimate and the 17 Platinum. Is it worth it. LED's, door sill lights up. What about the leather quality in the Platinum?

stangDiesel, my first 2017 was one of the earliest ones built. I ordered it in May 2016 and it was built early September 2016. I got it in early October. Truck was a 350 dually diesel Lariat Ultimate as seen in my avatar, with nearly every option including LED headlights. The truck really had virtually no issues. One of the power-folding mirrors failed and was fixed under warranty. The sliding media tray cover (where the front USB ports are) was sticky and didn't open / close well. This, too was fixed. There was a recall for a simple metal hold-down plate on the transmission lines going into the side of the transmission. Some trucks leaked. Mine never did, but this was replaced anyway. My aluminum dually rims leaked air, but this only affects the dually trucks and is an ongoing problem. Otherwise, it was perfect. So my truck was built nearly six months earlier than yours and was fine. I'd not hesitate. The only real benefit to getting a "Job 2" truck was the addition of rear seat USB ports for charging. Being built in February, your truck probably is a Job 2.

If the truck you're considering is a diesel, the 2018 models have +10HP and +10lb-ft on the 2017 models. The gas engine is unchanged. For the diesels, this is mostly just a peeing match for "most horsepower" and "most torque." The actual differences won't amount to squat on the road.

Thanks, this helps and makes me lean Platinum.

The oil will need to be replaced soon (one year), have them throw in an oil change as part of the deal.

Is it an odd color or configuration? Just curious as to why it has been sitting so long. Will you have as much trouble selling it in 5-10 years?

Use the 600 days on the lot as a negotiation point, espicially if there are less than 10 miles on the truck. I’d did, truck was built in September 2016, I bought it in March and it had 3 miles on it when I test drove it. Used that point to negotiate off the price a bit by saying there was not much interest in my truck (6.2 supercab longbed) and I was unloading some stagnant inventory for them. Think I only ended up with anoth $1000-$1500 between purchase price and trade value off but every bit helps. And haven’t had any issues with the truck.

If the 2017 Platinum has everything you want in the color you like, then work a killer deal and take her home!

it has 16 miles on it. Magnetic with black interior. They don’t really promote their inventory, they sell mainly fleet and take a lot of orders on trucks. They have low inventory.

From: Homer Glen IL,
I did not order the LEDs when I built my truck. Reason being I own a 2013 Audi Q5 with LED's I noticed that one was a little less bright than the other. I asked the dealer and they said "LED headlights have Phosphorus in them that depletes over time" and if the cost $1100 to add to build just imagine what they will cost to replace!! not that big of a difference in brightness..

So that's truck is kinda early middle production and should be fine early production trucks like mine (oct 2016 delivered dec) had some issues. that said it's really a crapshoot on if it will be reliable or not. Mine currently is suffering from a oil leak, fuel tank sending unit TSB, seat button, and coolant smell (not an issue more of a why is it doing this); also before I took it off the lot I had some flaws in the paint they needed to redo. So really a a gamble and there was a small period I think right after my production that they froze orders for the 6.7 trucks due to the engine issue (someone more knowledgeable can chime in here). There is another thread here about issues in the 2017, but like I said it's a gable and none of my issues were anywhere near as bad as my Ram. As for LED headlights, I love them I have had them on my last 2 BMW's and now on my truck and would not go any other route.
