It's been several years since I was at that stage on my '54 but there should be a slot in your doors that the mirrors fit into. Should be a rubber grommet to make it watertight. If you are doing both doors, forget about trying to set the passenger side in a position that you can see behind you. I have my passenger side adjusted so my co-pilot (wife) can see out of it and I use the driver side and the interior mirror. Good luck and post some pictures and progress of your '54. Steve

You can't see out of the passenger side mirror with these round chrome mirrors because they were not designed for 1953 to 55 trucks. These mirrors were produced later and since they use the same base 53 to 55 owners put them on their trucks.
With this stock 53 to 56 mirror you can see out the passenger side!
Here is a Ford promotional picture showing a 55 with the stock mirrors.
I had a situation where the previous owner filled in the slots and I had to get some help figuring out where they went. I came up with this info. It worked. Not sure if this is what you are asking? Otherwise, they just push into the slot with the tongue piece until you line the holes up and bolt them in. Not sure of bolt size offhand.
they look great, but, like Steve and Abe said, you can't see anything out of them.
Thank you for the input. Do I need to remove the glass to install these? The door glass? No. Look at the inside jamb of your door. The mirror base slides in the slot and there are two bolts that screw through the base into the interior of the door just above the hinge.
Abe, I like those mirrors. Where can I find them? You can not find them. No one reproduces them. They are made from Unobtainium. The best you could do is find used ones from somewhere in the south west or on a barn find and clean them up. That is how I got my two pair. The ones on my truck originally were in very bad shape. The arms are more durable than the mirror heads. One of my mirror heads should be replaced if I ever find a decent one.
