Glow plug codes
The engine light on the Excursion has been on for awhile now. I checked the codes here while back and I was getting glow plug cylinders number 2 and 8 fault. Last month I went to clear the codes and it changed to cylinder numbers 5 and 8 fault. If the codes are cleared while the engine is cool, the light will come back on when started. If I clear the codes while the engine is hot, they stay gone until the engine is started when cooled back off. Does this sound like the GPCM? I tried to pull the green and black plugs to the module but seemed tight, so I may have to take a screw driver to leverage a bit.

The plugs are tough to get off. If you need a spare GPCM to test with, I have one.
The other possibilities are the UVCH plugs on the outside and the inside of the valve cover. Also, you could just have some bad glow plugs.

The codes are telling you 2 glow plugs are bad. Start there, check those 2 glow plugs before guessing other things. They do wear out. If you have a couple dead ones, strongly suggest replacing all 8 while you have the valve covers off and the under valve cover wiring harnesses.
