86 f150 trip meter

Took out the instrument cluster to install white faces on the gauges. Everything worked out fine except that now the trip meter isn't working. Any ideas?

Did you re-zero it? Hit the re-zero button again. I have had the one my ranger flake out once in awhile and messing with the reset button always fixes it.

I’ve pushed the reset button multiple times. I had trouble disconnecting the speedometer cable when removing the cluster and broke the retaining tab. Is it possible that the cable isn’t pushed in far enough? I would think that if the speedo works ( which it does) that the trip meter would also.

I haven't looked at it that deep, but I would think it's just gearing inbetween the speedometer and the trip odometer. Looks like you are going to have to tear it apart again.

I have a old 65 mustang, and every time the odometer hits a bunch of 9's it stops working. I have pulled it apart a couple of times, and each time there is a little gear that pushes itself out the side of the gear box when the heavier load of all 9's comes around.

Turns out that it was something simple. Took the cluster out and ran the speedo with a drill, trip meter didn't work. Took off the clear panel and it worked fine. Turns out that when I put the speedo in it wasn't seated all the way and it stuck out just far enough to keep the reset lever from returning all the way.
