SRW vs DRW

I'm in the market for a new Ford pickup. I could also be buying a large fifth-wheel toy hauler (between 39 and 43 feet). At what range of weight and/or length should I be moving from a SRW to DRW? Thanks.

I think at that point between weight and length, you have crossed over to the DRW realm.

Yep, DRW big time LOLz.

Were they all out of 53' trailers?

F150 with airbags will do fine.

Go with the DRW advice, while the ~20k pound tow rating of a 350 srw will probably cover most 40ish ft trailers you'll be safer and so will everyone else on the road if you get a dually.

I think an F450 CC would look nice. Extra points if it's a flat bed 450.

You need to look at carrying capacity. Pin weight of the 5er needs to be considered... I will bet you go with DRW

There is no length that requires a DRW. It's all about pin weight and the old 20% of GVWR rule is often off. I have a 44.5' long, 8.5' wide, 21k GVWR (less when fully loaded ready for travel) toy hauler that in about at or just under my ratings. If you want to stay with a SRW, you can still have a large 5ver. You just need to shop pin weights to find one that works. Light pin (due to axle placement) is one of the reasons I started shopping my brand as I had no desire to buy a DRW...

I have a 39' 2015 Keystone Alpine and a SRW. If I could switch to a DRW while towing only I might just to be more secure.

But the SRW tows very nicely. And I get in the car wash, and drive throughs. And only 4 tires to change.

I have a f350 srw and was once looking at toyhaulers. Only a few would fit the bill on my truck's limits. That was going by the manufacturer's "empty' pin weight. You can find some but the triaxle types are pretty much overweight.

My triaxle is no where near overweight for a SRW. Pin is about 2800# with the garage empty and 2600# with the garage loaded..

It would help if we knew the model of toy hauler. They vary wildly in weight.
