You guys are great.

My first post but I've been lurking around for awhile. I recently bought a 1997 F350 dually and this site has been so much help with some issues I've had. I put many thousands of miles on these trucks back in my construction days when they were brand new and was greatly impressed. Nothing sounds or drives like a powerstroke. A couple of months ago I started seeing white smoke that kept getting worse it seemed every time I cranked the truck. After reading many of your thoughts on this forum and trying all the "easy" fixes first I finally took the plunge and removed the injectors. Not nearly as bad as I was dreading having never worked on a diesel before. Like most of you recommended I had Jim at Rosewood reman me a set of stage 1s. Should be here this week and I can't wait to get 'er back on the road. Just wanted to give y'all a grateful thumbs up for all the good info many of you dedicate to this forum. Thanks.

Yeah, Ive already got the mod bug. Don't have any history on the truck. Looks stock everywhere. I've done the 6637 intake mod and Jim is sending me the stage 1s. I guess the 3" downpipe is next? I'm retiring in a couple of years and would like to use it to pull a 30ft gooseneck camper where ever. Need it more dependable than powerful I guess. I admit though that it would be kick to be able to pass a duramax on a grade in my old 20+ year old powerstroke.

Welcome aboard indeed! It’s a slippery slope when it comes to mods. First and foremost, is everything up to par mechanically? If so, here is a solid list to start with.

Intake, you have
Exhaust
Chip
Gauges
E fuel
HPOP
Intercooler
Injectors, on the way for you
Transmission upgrades
Then we can start talking turbo

I've actually done quite a bit of what I thought was preventive maintanence. New glow plugs, uvch, cps, ipr, new fuel pump, rebuilt fuel bowl assembly, and new injector cups from RiffRaff. Installed gauges, boost, fuel pressure, and exhaust temp. It's a 5sp so didn't figure I needed trans temp. PO had already removed the cat and muffler but still otherwise stock exhaust. I'm thinking 3" downpipe and 4" exhaust should come next or maybe efuel system? I missed FedEx yesterday to sign for my stage 1s from Jim. Dangit.

Injectors came in and will install this weekend. Most of you have said get a ts chip in order to get the most out of these stage 1s. Is this something I should do now or wait until other mods are done?

You can always have the tunes reburned as you add mods.

Do these two first before I get the chip? This mod bug seems to really get to you once you do the first one. Wife has been pretty tolerant so far but we'll see how long she lasts. I've always liked these obs trucks and it's actually been fun to work on. You guys are obviously passionate about your trucks. I hope my wallet holds out. If I can figure out how, I'll post pictures later.

I appreciate some one using the search function. The mod bug is more like an infection and the only cure is more mods!

How’s your clutch? I’m assuming it’s been upgraded to a single mass unit?

Haven't had any clutch problems, seems tight. Don't know what flywheel I have or how to tell really. I have no history on the truck. It was just a good solid driver when I got it, then the white smoke started and narrowed it down to injectors. I hope I haven't made a mistake but I drained all the oil from oil rails on the head and out of the pan while waiting for Jim to send injectors. Will that hurt the motor to purge fuel and oil out of the cylinders with glow plugs out? I don't want to put new oil in until after that do I? Got the injectors yesterday and hope to have it going this weekend.

wont hurt to purge all the oil you can but you wont get it all out

just crank the engine over by wrench a few revolutions to get most out of cylindres with glow plugs out, hit starter on fire wall once and then install GPs.
