i've acquired a 1993 F-250 7.3 non turbo, manual transmission with about 187k...it had been in a bit of a fender bender and since then hasn't been driven since 2015.
long story short, fixed it up, and got it driving, but still have some kinks to work out.
the tachometer has not been working since the start. stays at 0, and never twitches. i've checked the fuse and it's good.
did find that the tachometer sensor had bare wires which soon pulled off, so today i replaced it. tach still stays at 0.
wouldn't all be gauges be dead? currently all that works is oil pressure, rpm, and battery. have not checked yet why for the fuel. needle was moving at first from half to full but now stays stuck past full. few suspects to chase down for that.
bad link? but, not sure if it's compatible, needs to be for '93 f-250
i have found today a heck of a mess under the dash (next to the pedals) for the wiring. someone has been through it, splicing and leaving wires simply cut with nowhere to go.
anyone has a diagram of the wiring under the dash? i'm suspecting that this could be the culprit and the wiring of gauge pod messed with. thinking that some wires are missing from the fuse box under the dash as well. fuse for the speedometer tests clean, but removing the fuse & trying the plug itself results in 0.
wiring is not my specialty, a good diagram would be greatly appreciated.
Mine were not. I put a new sensor on the IP gear cover and still had no tach. Replaced whole gage pod and it worked.
ok well i still need to try out for the speedometer...i've repaired some of the wires, looks like the guy who had the truck had problems with mice. got sleeted really good here, so truck hasn't budged since the repairs. if no improvements ( i'm not so sure that they relate to the speedometer anyway) and it's not fixable, looks like it'll have to be the same for me.
there is a red little box under the dash panel, brand name is Excalibur. there are few plugs that hook up to it. does anyone know what it is? i've tried to find it online but nothing pulled up.
few plugs were dangling that i re-hooked to this box (obvious match) but i'm not sure what's the deal with it. add in?
The speedo is out as well? Does the odometer work or read a number?
"Excalibur" box is aftermarket, most certainly. Poss. a trailer brake controller.
yea, speedo is out, never moves. odometer isn't working either.
ok so most likely not related. it must be nothing special, even that doesn't pull up anything. well, i'm in need of a trailer brake controller but not one so simple, so will replace that.
