Hello, i just rebuilt my 1966 289. here is the issue if i am unable to move the crank shaft with out the heads on it. is it going to be a problem. i was told that i need to be able to turn it by hand. also i can trun the crankshaft when one of the connecting rods is not fully tightened. i really would like some feed back i need to get my car back on the road its driveing me nuts.

I'm a little confused on exactly what your doing, are you wanting to turn the crank on the short block asymbly with your bare hands? and why would you have one rod thats not torked to specs? DW

Yes, that is a big problem. You should always be able to turn the crank and it should be smoothly. You should be able to move it with a regular rachet and socket from the crankshaft.
Sounds like you need to get some plastigage and mic out the bearings and endplay on the crank. You have got things in a bind. Did you follow the recommended bolt torque sequence on the mains? Did you 2-stage the torque sequence? Do you have the rods facing the right way? What did you torque everything down to?
I would start over on the crank and rods and see what happens.
