I'm considering putting a 66 F-250 body on a 79 F-250 frame. The 79 has PS a 460 and D80 rear.
Does anyone have any info on this? Body mount relocation info?
Any problems I might run into?
I am doing the same thing, but with a 65 F250 to a 75 F250. The cab should be a direct bolt up but the bed is going to need some new mounting holes because the frame is wider in the back than the 66. Also you need to check the wheel base on the the trucks. My 65 is 129" and the 75 is 133" I don't think you will be able to see the 4" set back on the rear wheel too much. I am going to save the old frame just in case I don't like the way it looks, that way I can put all of the things on the 65 frame.
I put my 65 F100 SWB Styleside on a 79 F150 SWB Styleside Chassis. It was a bolt up swap. I retained the 79 rear, in-frame, fuel tank arrangement by fabricating a filler door, pocket & Fill pipe guard in the 65 Bed.
Biggest deal was fitting Power Disc Booster to 65 Firewall then getting it to work right with the 65 Swing pedals. The 65 brake actuating P-Rod was not the right length. Otherwise its easy to do. FBp
I did the same with my 66 merc. I placed it on a 75 1/2 ton frame
no problems from the rear cab mounts forward, but I did have to drill new holes in the frame to mount the box and I did have to move the rear axle ahead 3 ". I did not like the way the rear tires looked set back in the wheel wheel. Eric
Thanks guys, the cab was what I was most worried about. I can fab mounts for the box. If it wasn't for this site, I may not have even bothered trying. If I can get a couple projects out of the shop this winter, I will be starting this swap in the spring. I'll post pics when I do.
