I purchased a 2014 F250, 6.2, 6R140 about six months ago and now has 68k. I've noticed that I can feel a harder downshift from 6th to 5th gear when I let off the throttle and let it loose speed. The downshift occurs just under 40mph. The shifting is not noticeable when all the other gears downshift. I would describe this as a bump feeling, not a hard slam. The shift isn't hard enough to send me into panic mode but it is noticeable enough that I am researching it. The upshift is fine for all gears. I replaced the trans filter and fluid a couple months ago. It seemed like the shifting was better after this, but I could just be dreaming. I have done a bit of googling on this and found a wide variety of opinions. I don't know if this trans has a 5-6 solenoid that is causing this or just the programming. Has anyone else ran into the same scenario where you have one hard downshift between 5-6 and everything else seems to work great?
Yep I noticed the same thing on my 2014 6.2 F-250 that I sold. I used a 5-Star tune on the truck that really made a difference in the shift pattern of the truck. I was pretty happy with it. It did alleviate the feeling of getting "kicked" when coming to a stop.
Also there is a "bump" sensation that happens when coming to a stop that can be fixed with greasing the slip yolk with ford ptfe grease part number XG-8. There are some great youtube videos out there on how to apply it.
Best of luck with it, it is a HD transmission, and will slam into gear harder than normal. It's less pronounced when the 6.7 is attached to the transmission. That may be why ford no longer offers the 6.2 with the 6R140 in the 2017 trucks.
Thanks for your reply. What is a five star tune? You have my attention..
I had the slip yoke bump on my F150 that was fixed with new grease. This bump is much different.
What are they going to put behind the 2017? I like the fact that I have a the same trans as the 6.7. Since the 6.2 doesn't have near the power it should hold up very well.
5Star is a forum sponsor here, they can provide a tuning device that can change the transmission shift points for towing or performance.
The 2017 6.2 got the Torqueshift-G 6R100. A lighter duty transmission than the 6R140. My guess is that symptoms like slamming gears on downshift are why they decided the 6r140 wasn't the right transmission for the 6.2.
