Hey everyone, been Excursion hunting some more and found one for cheap. Been looking for something in good mechanical shape and a good body so I can fix it up the way I want it. Found an '03 with lots of miles(by my standards)288k and it has some rust. The rust is the only thing that scares me. I was going to take the pics to my local body shop guy and see what he said but was hoping to get some additional opinions. He says underneath the truck is okay, it's a long distance one so can't easily swing by and check it out myself. It's a Kansas truck, surprised it's got rust. They say this one runs and shifts smooth. Here's the truck: 2003 Ford Excursion Limited - AM Auto
Get a southern truck, a few good ones eligible for conversion sitting on the facebook forum 'Fummins Tech'. Join and scroll down for the $2,500 from Kevin Johansen. Buy once, cry once. For 2,500 I don't think you'll be crying. 190k on it and get more pics, and go get it.
It's a CT truck, but just get more pics to be sure it's as clean as it looks. I came from the north, and wouldn't touch a rusty Ex for anything.
I mean, the rockers are in pretty tough shape for my taste. Depends on how much you want to put into it. If you're gonna have a body shop do the work, I'd imagine it's not cheap. There are several writeups here of folks that have both done it themselves, and hired it out. Looking at the pictures online, there's definitely some oil/grease leaking in the front end. Front seats are probably trash given the fact that there's seat covers on it still from the dealer photos. If it were me, I'd probably pass. If you want a quality X, they're out there, you just have to wait. Then again, if you're wanting a project, go for it!
The V10 guys will have to weigh in as far as mileage and what to look for there (or look in the tech forums and some searching on common problems here).

Got a quick break at work ran over to body shop and he agreed with you. Said "stuff" is like cancer once it starts eating hard to get it to stop. I'll take the advice and pass.

Good luck!
Ya, I told my wife it looks like it's drooling. The oil grease leak is probably a little more of a technical analysis of what's going on there, lol. Thanks for chiming in.

Don't start off with something like this, you will regret it forever. It will suck the life out of you.

It looks like this one misses your own set goals. Go South young man!
Rust is bad! It is WELL worth a couple or few days to take a trip down south and get a rust free vehicle to start with. Parts can be replaced easily, rust is a vehicle killer!
