Can you also decode ford auto serial numbers? I'm trying to get info before I start working on a station wagon that belongs to the father of a high school friend of mine. It's not running and the air cleaner has 429 on it. Has about 90k miles and has been in a garage for the last 15 years.
Thanks.
john
Thanks for the response. The outside is in very good condition but weathered. The inside looks factory new. Still there is not much demand for the older wagons. If I can get it running the engine and tranny may have the most value.
It is the 385 series engine. It replaced the FE. The 429 grew into the 460.
The motor/transmission are not highly sought after. You might get a few hundred dollars for them as a unit. Depending on the total package you might be able to sell the car as a driver easier. It is a roll of the dice.

429 not sought after? Jeez, around here they seem to go for their weight in gold. IF you can even find one for sale.
Not that I look very often, I'm only really interested in Cleveland's. Haha

Codes on owners cards in different locations than on Warranty Plates.
Another question. What class of engine is the 429?
John, it sounds like you might have a nice time capsule. I am in the process of gathering parts to build a 72 F-250 4x4. I am going to power it with a 460. Would it be possible for you to post some photos of the engine alternator, power steering, and air conditioning brackets and belt pulleys?
I'll take some more pics this weekend.
Thanks for every ones info and input.
Here are two pics of what not to leave your kids to deal with. Two 15'x30' units filled to the ceiling. ($40-50k in fees over 15 years)
Maybe a metal break on the top rack , left side. Just keep in mind, that someone must have felt "this is important to me, Ill save it", as you go through all of it. My Dad is that way-most likely fro the Recession- He even saved coffee cans of old spark plugs-"just in case". I can't remember how many old bent nails my brother and I (tried to) straightened out when he built stuff around the farm.
Gary, It is a 10' break for working on metal awnings and facia covering. A lot of the stuff it is stuff he picked up from who knows where and when. We are just reaching the disassembled tractor parts from equipment he lost some years ago.
428m, here are some quick pics. If there isn't enough detail let me know and I'll try to get some better ones.
